Our adventure began with the pick up of our new trailer. We bought a 2009 Jayco Jayflight 28BHS trailer which is 30 feet long with queen bed in front and a double bed and single bunk in the rear. It also has a small slideout for the couch area. The dinette and the couch can convert to extra beds so we can handle a bunch of company! It has a nice kitchen area so Kirk can do all the cooking while I sit and watch and sip my wine or beer!
We spent 4 hours getting oriented to all the features and operations of the trailer as well as how to hitch and unhitch the monster! A normal orientation period is 2 hours but Kirk was full of questions, clarifications, what abouts.... (are we surprised!) and he literally drove the staff nuts! Then the moment came when Kirk had to drive it home. I called the Pope and asked for a special blessing, broke out my rosary beads and started sweating profusely! Because we spent so much time at the dealership, we had to drive home in rush hour traffic, adding to my anxiety. Before we attempted to back it into the driveway, we went to an empty parking lot for Kirk to practice. Oh Boy.... Ninety minutes later, and after simulating our street with buckets and stools, he only wiped out the neighbor's mailbox 8 times, knocked out our evergreen tree twice, hit the neighbor's car in their driveway a few times and took out the birdbath... he finally felt like he might be able to do the deed. So off we went. I already had used up all my spiritual offerings just getting home so I had to bank on living a good life to help us get it in the driveway. Kirk was stellar and I collapsed on the front lawn once the trailer was unhitched!
