Yellowstone - Day Two

Old Faithful!
Got my bison picture!

Pretty Emerald Pool

The Grotto

Giant Geyser

Can you get enough pools and geysers? And, of course, a trip to Yellowstone has to include Old Faithful or it wouldn't be a trip to Yellowstone!
We did walk around all the trails to all the geysers in the Old Faithful area. The majority of the pictures included are from that walk. We tried to catch some of the geysers that were predicted to erupt during our stay but we weren't too successful except for Old Faithful. The area is really active . . . it's almost scary to think you are walking on the most likely area in the U.S. for a major eruption some day . . . one that will likely wipe out a whole helluva lot of people and change the environment throughout the world if it occurs. Oh well, I guess that adds to the excitement!!!
We've now managed to see Bison, Elk, a coyote, bald eagles, deer, lots of squirrels, and ravens. The only problem with the wildlife is that you occasionally get caught up in mile long vehicle backups of wildlife guawkers that can sometimes get a bit trying. It is amazing . . despite all the warnings from the park service, you still see people walking up to within 10 to 15 feet of elk, bison, whatever, to get their precious pictures!!! Surprisingly, however, it just doesn't seem as crowded with people as we had expected . . . maybe the depressive economy has had its toll!!
One thing for sure . . . we are certainly not experiencing the hot, dry weather we had while we were in the southwest. Every morning thus far has been in the low 40's, we've had a few sprinkles, and the highs have only been in the 70's. Definitely, we are now "in the mountains".
The next couple days may include a trip to the Grand Tetons, or some fly fishing either in Yellowstone or Montana, or both. We'll let you know in our next blog posting!!!
