The turn around point for this insane hike!!!

After son Richard arrived on Friday, we decided that we would spend the remainder of our time hiking in Sedona. He had a few friends visit us while we were there - Morgan, Julie and Lily. Our first day in Sedona was spent taking a 6 mile round trip hike through Oak Creek Canyon. We all thought it was going to be a casual stroll and it ended up being a much longer day. It was a beautiful hike and not strenuous in terms of elevation just that it took forever. It provided a nice look at the canyon with all the foliage and canyon walls towering over us. Kirk and I were pretty wore out but decided we would tackle another day of hiking in Sedona at Red Rock State Park the next day. This was a much kinder, gentler walk and much more open. It gave us the opportunity to see lots of the red rocks that Sedona is noted for. After Red Rock State Park, we took a trip to other side of Sedona to see a gorgeous church built into the red rocks - Chapel of the Holy Cross. Not only was the Chapel magnificent but the house, or I should say the mansion just below the church, complete with a telescope observatory, was also magnificent and was the poster child for capitalistic decadence! Our last night was spent sitting by the trailer, drinking beer and having a fabulous dinner prepared by who else! The next day we packed up early and headed for Zion National Park.
